 Comment
 *The eae gene in strain 5152/97, which is located between map and espF, was detectable by DNA–DNA hybridization but not by PCR. Interestingly, a long-distance map-espF PCR resulted in a fragment of ~4 kb instead of the predicted 12.7 kb in reference strain EDL933, indicating a truncation that affects eae (Creuzburg et al. (2011) Evolutionary analysis and distribution of type III effector genes in pathogenic Escherichia coli from human, animal and food sources. Environ Microbiol 13: 439-452).
